The first joint residency welcomes back resident number
7, Michele Di Menna, and introduces Canadian artist/musician
Jeremy Shaw. The result is `I am a Laser Scream like a
Baby’, 2 performances over 2 days, and disco fun!
Jeremy Shaw performs a lecture. It begins with a presentation
on absurdly complex laser technology and culminates in a
Bowie-inspired concert and laser show. The audience is
both witness and victim to the manipulative psychological
twist orchestrated by laser beams, music and the mental
processing of information. Later in the evening, as the
lasers die down, we watch Wizard Of Oz (1939).
Instead of its original soundtrack, Pink Floyd's Dark
Side of the Moon (1973) accompanies the film. According
to urban myth, the album was written whilst the band was
watching the movie.
Day 2 of the residency, Michele Di Menna is back
at Caribic! We keep knocking at her door. When will
she start? Then.. Drilling, framing, smoking, clinking
glasses. We witness the swift and elegant construction
of a frame, accompanied by an awkward soundtrack of hammering,
piercing, screeching sounds. The audience is challenged
to accept the division, the rules of the performer, performing
what? Frame over frame over frame, we loose ourselves
in compelling visuals, shapes and colours with aesthetic
proposals, framing a tautological framing of a frame.
And pause. |
