After an initial lengthy correspondence by post and email, the
anonymous European artist collective Jonny Roofrack sent a single
framed picture in plastic wrapping. This was accompanied by
a list of specific installation instructions. The picture titled
Daphne (2003) was to be hung back to front, exposing
the details of an application made to the Hunting Art Prize
2003, an annual traditional painting prize in London. The piece
was subsequently rejected. We were also instructed to place
a microphone stand (without microphone) under a spot light and
to wait. On the second evening of the residency at approximately
1am, an unknown woman arrived, stood beneath the spot light,
said nothing for 10 minutes and left.
Jonny Roofrack continuously insists on trying to avoid any information
about their activities being released in the press or internet,
as an attempt to maintain their anonymity! |
