17, Manuela Gernedel, settles into the former office
space with an arrangement of her works, atmospheric
candles, veils, posters, plants, table and chairs,
creating a living-room-like mood that is awkwardly
pressed into one corner. The scent of lavender and
homemade cabbage soup warmly welcome the guests
of freezing-cold and snow-covered Hamburg. We cozily
sit together with strangers and new friends, watching
a film programme composed by Gernedel, including
an artist film by the collective Elizabeth Go!,
a documentary about the legendary band Embryo
during their 9-months long tour and episodes of
Videodrama, a London-based stand-up comedy
club. Only after some time, the rather uncanny exaggeration
of homeliness and domestic activity become apparent.
Even more so, when on the following night a bold
black line appears on the wall, seemingly splitting
the friendly set-up in two, or is it just a gesture
of modern interior design adding to our domesticated
lifestyle over these past two days? |

Dokumentarfilm der legendaeren, 9 monatigen Reise die die Musikgruppe Embryo 1978 -1979 unternahm; durch Ost-Europa, Tuerkei, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan und Indien. Sie zogen los mit einer Caravane von 35 und kamen heim mit 36, da unterwegs ein Kind geboren wurde! Der Film zeigt das starke Embryo-Quartett (Roman Bunka, Uwe Muellrich, Michi Wehmeier, Christian Burchard) sowie viele meisterhafte Musiker Asiens, wo fantastische Sessions stattgefunden haben.
The legendary 9month long tour that Embryo did, passing Eastern Europe, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India from 1978-1979. They left with a Caravan of 35 people and came back with 36, cause one child was born on the road!
Featuring not only the strong Embryo-quartett ( Roman Bunka, Uwe Muellrich, Michi Wehmeier, Christian Burchard) but also Matsermusicians of Asia, where increadible sessions were happening.
